MultiMedia Functions Toward Business Applications

(TUCSON, AZ -- October 23, 1992) -- Artisoft, Inc.
announced today that it will begin shipping its ArtiScribe
NetMedia Document and Dictation System October 26. The
ArtiScribe system allows business users to integrate voice, text
and screen images into NetMedia documents which can be
distributed via networks such as Artisoft's LANtastic(R) Local
Area Network or Novell's NetWare(R). The ArtiScribe system is
packaged in two ways, the ArtiScribe Documentation and Dictation
Kit, which is priced at $495 and includes software for one user,
one Sounding Board(TM) adapter and a specialized keypad. For
users who already have Sounding Board adapters, the ArtiScribe
system is available in a Software Kit, which is priced at $395
and includes software for one user and a specialized keypad.

screen graphics and supporting applications files to create
dynamic desktop presentations which can be routed across the
network - all from their DOS-based PCs." said Ken Davis,
Artisoft's Director of Business Analysis and Alliance. "In
addition, they can use this practical, cost- effective business
tool to make dictation and transcription more efficient."

The ArtiScribe system is a versatile business tool for adding
sound and voice to desktop PCs and DOS- based applications, with
the option for distribution across a local area network. It uses
Artisoft's Sounding Board adapter to transform a desktop PC into
a digital recording device with a convenient phone- style
handset or optional hands-free headset. Microphones, CD-players,
amplifiers and speakers can also be plugged into the adapter's
input/output RCA jacks, adding enormous flexibility to the
system.

These sound capabilities alone can add a whole new dimension to
business communications. Users who prefer to voice their
opinions over writing them now have that option. In addition,
there are occasions when the subtle nuance of the spoken word is
more effective in conveying the communicator's tone -- whether
it's urgent, humorous or questioning.

The core of the ArtiScribe system is its ability to integrate
sound files with screen captures and/or other application files
and then distribute them to other ArtiScribe users over a local
area network. One user can record a voice message about a
project and then attach related spreadsheets and text documents
to the sound file for another user's examination, or a user can
attach a spreadsheet document to voice commentary to ask for
more direction or to give a brief explanation.

With the ArtiScribe system's screen capture option, users can
integrate visual aids to voice files to create powerful desktop
presentations. Users can narrate screen captures of spreadsheets
with an ongoing voice commentary for a slide show effect, or
route screen captures of various project documents with voice
annotations explaining their status to other users for their
feedback or approval.

Finally, the ArtiScribe system can be used as an efficient
alternative to dictation/transcription machines, tape recorders
and tapes. Users can record and play ArtiScribe voice files in
the background while they are in another application. All
transcription and dictation commands are accessible via the pop-
up TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) program or the specialized
external keypad. Users can transcribe ArtiScribe voice dictation
into any DOS- based application on a PC local area network.

LANtastic users (v3.0 and higher) reap extra benefits -- the
ArtiScribe system is immediately set up with the LANtastic
server's user account files. In addition, pop-up message
notification is available to notify ArtiScribe users that a file
has been sent to them. The ArtiScribe system works on any
NetBIOS-based local area network with any IBM(R) PC or
compatible that has a hard drive and 256K RAM. It requires MS-
DOS 3.3 and above and an 8-bit expansion slot for the Sounding
Board adapter. The specialized keypad can be plugged in to an
available serial port, or users can choose to use their standard
keyboard.
